WEI provided Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Design for the new, three-story facility including basement mechanical areas, which houses several student services departments.\u00a0 The facility tied into the campus central heating and cooling plant, utilizing steam and chilled water. The facility is served by variable air volume central station air handling units with shut off terminal units with reheat.<\/h4>\n

Plumbing Design included low water consumption commercial grade fixtures, domestic water distribution, sanitary waste and vent and natural gas.\u00a0<\/h4>\n

Fire Protection Design included wet pipe sprinklers, dry pipe systems for exterior covered areas, and standpipes for each stairwell.<\/h4>\n

WEI provided mechanical design for the renovation of the existing lab. Two owner furnished fume hood were installed. There were two rooms as part of the lab, served by a single, above-ceiling split system dx unit. This was removed and a split system dx dedicated to outside air unit was installed to condition the lab which housed the fume hoods. A split system dx unit was installed to handle conditioning for the other lab space. A roof mounted fume exhaust fan system was installed, interlocked to operate with the hoods. The fan system included two fans, one in operation, and one which served as redundancy. The plumbing consisted of connecting the fume hoods to existing acid waste piping and existing domestic water system. In addition, existing compressed air was extended to connect to the hoods. A new sink with a deck mounted eye wash was provided. WEI contributed to renovations of the existing 33,000 SF residence halls at Chipola College by implementing HVAC designs that consisted of a new system utilizing the campus’s central chilled water plant. Additionally, digital controls with set-point limits\u00a0<\/span>were included to address air quality concerns. Previously, the dorms were served by DX units that were oversized for the load of the rooms and there was no limit on how cold the residents could set the room temperature. The new HVAC system corrected issues related to temperature control and air quality with owner efficiency and resident comfortability in mind.\u00a0<\/h4>\n
